La Educ@ción in Action*
More and more, societies are moving towards a scenario in which information and knowledge are first class indicators for ensuring sustainable development. Virtuality is a reality. Countries are more frequently using Internet as a tool and resource for the academic and professional development of their citizens.
The use of new information and communication technologies (ICTs) for distance education constitutes an open invitation to reflect on its impact in the training of human resources at the regional level. The challenge for creating, designing, and implementing new strategies for lifelong learning has been set forth.
It is within this context that the digital version of the Inter-American Review of Educational Development, La Educación.-- which has been in circulation since 1956, but for several years has not been published in printed form due to budgetary constraints—was launched last month.
From this point forward, the journal will be published exclusively in a digital format and will be offered free of charge through the Educational Portal of the Americas. The journal will be published every six months, and will include special issues on topics of interest for its users. In consultation with potential users, it was determined that the digital version of the journal will contain an editorial, articles, interviews, studies and news of interest, as well as publication norms and criteria. It is expected that gradually the journal will incorporate additional sections and resources.
La Educación will continue to strive to be a pluralist forum, while at the same time being informative, analytical, and critical through the nature of its contributions. Each issue offers educators, researchers, and the general public alike articles on educational development in the region, within a social and cultural context. The content of La Educación is not limited to an era, a single problem, or school of thought, but rather, to a larger extent, tends to present interdisciplinary focuses regarding education of our time.
In spite of hardships and other barriers that may exist, we invite you to travel this road with us and help to make La Educ@ción a space for sharing and communicating knowledge, a space we truly need in the Americas. ?
