1. What do you believe is the primary factor for promoting –from the university level-- qualitative change in our countries?
I
believe that the focus should be on the local knowledge systems. First
the countries should have a scientific approach in identifying the
local knowledge systems because 80 % of our people are not
participating or don't have the means to take part in the knowledge
building process which is taking place in the universities. In this
way the universities are dealing with matters which can't really work
in our countries because the knowledge systems are there but S&T is
focused on the internationally recognize once which are clearly out of
our real living spheres.
2. What are the challenges that should be faced in the short and medium terms?
A
more local and people oriented R&D by focusing on the local knowledge systems
and incorporate S&T innovations for better feedback and by so doing create a
more development oriented OAS-education base.
3. How can science and technology professionals stay abreast of the ongoing processes of change that take place in their fields?
By
linking with the others worldwide. I myself are a Suriname national in
the PRC.
